The Property, in Motion
Encinitas Highlands
Plantation Beach Cottage sits within the Historic Downtown Encinitas boundary designation — a protected district recognized for its cultural significance dating to the 1880s. The Highlands is a cherished walking community where tree-lined streets invite morning strolls and neighbors greet each other with genuine warmth.
This is a place that has maintained its small-town charm while embracing the relaxed coastal California lifestyle — where people wave from porches, children play in front yards, and the pace of life encourages connection over convenience.
Where strangers become neighbors, and neighbors become friends.
The Birth of Encinitas
Jabez Pitcher established the first settlement, named from the Spanish encina ("live oak") for the groves lining the Pacific bluffs.
The Railroad Arrives
The California Southern Railroad connected Encinitas to San Diego and LA. Coast Highway 101 grew up around the depot.
La Paloma Theatre
The iconic theatre opened on Hwy 101 — still showing films and hosting live music today, nearly a century later.
Yogananda's Hermitage
The Self Realization Fellowship established meditation gardens on the bluffs, earning Encinitas the title "Yoga Capital of America."
